The one kinda of traffic jam we like in life is the kind that happens on our blogs.
Because as bloggers, our profit potential lies in our ability to bring new visitors to our site, who subscribe and then become customers - because then we all live happily ever after.
However, more often than not, getting traffic to your blog can be difficult unless you've cracked the traffic control code. If you're feeling this right now, don't worry because you're not alone, and I'm here to help.
There are three ways I bring more traffic to my website regularly, helping me increase my subscribers list quickly, thus increasing my businesses' profitability.

Ahh, Pinterest. How I love thee. While at least half my life is spent living vicariously in a Pinterest fantasy land, Pinterest is an oft-overlooked dark horse when it comes to blog traffic potential.
If you're not already on the Pinterest horse with a traffic strategy for your blog, I recommend starting one, pronto. The power of Pinterest lies in pinning to group boards, and sharing useful, informative topics in a presentable and aesthetically pleasing format.
At the time of writing this, I've only just began to implement Pinterest as a traffic strategy on my own blog. However I've seen fantastic results for others and am beginning to see results for myself and clients, so I'm hoping to see Pinterest grow as one of my top traffic referrers in the next three months.
[Update: I Googled and tested everything I could to learn on how to set up Pinterest for consistent traffic, however still wasn't getting results as strong as hoped. I ended up taking this course on Pinterest and found that it filled in many of the missing gaps for me. I would highly recommend it if you're the kind of person who would rather learn and implement straight away rather than learn it all yourself over a period of time.]
There's a lot of work involved in setting up, tweaking and perfecting your Pinterest traffic system, but once it's up, you only need to spend 30 mins to an hour each week using Pinterest to keep getting results.
While organic engagement on Facebook appears to be on the decrease along with the opportunities for blog traffic, for those in the know, it's not. There's two ways I recommend you consider building a traffic strategy via Facebook, and that's through your page and groups.
Since re-launching this blog in 2016, I'm yet to start a Facebook page for it. The sole reason is I haven't yet had time to put thought into setting it up, sourcing content and scheduling as the two social media platforms I chose to begin with were Instagram and Pinterest. However, later in 2017 I do plan to start a Facebook page for this blog, and I'll also be starting one for a second blog I'm starting - a health and recipe blog.
While I don't have any valuable Facebook page tips of my own to share for this reason, I do recommend you read this eBook* which I recently bought and read to learn the latest strategies to grow a highly engaged Facebook page, quickly. Brittany shares how she went from 2000 to 100,000 Facebook fans in 5 months* - without ads. Her tips are very achievable for anyone, and once I start my Facebook pages, it's these strategies I'll be using to grow them and drive traffic (I'll report back here and update this section with my results once I've done so). Aside from the practical, tactical aspects she uses, the main takeaway I think worth sharing with you here is to be confident in sharing your own point of view, and be true to yourself when posting your content.
Facebook groups can sometimes get a bad rap for being overly promotional, however from what I've experienced and observed, those who participate most by giving to others first, also reap great results as others tend to reciprocate to them.
If you mark down on a calendar the days each group have their promotional threads, you can easily keep on top of when to post your latest blog posts and offers. Just make sure you give more than you take to get the most from this tactic.
Personally, I don't use Facebook ads anymore to promote my blog, opt-ins or services. I think it's possible to do, but I'm not really prepared to invest my money in Facebook advertising without first seeing a Facebook ads consultant and having a really solid purpose and strategy behind my ad campaigns to make sure I get the best return on investment. It's something I'll consider when I have multiple courses and email funnels set up.
It might surprise you to see SEO listed here as a method to bring more traffic to your blog. SEO kinda gets a bad rap in the blogging world, because it's the unsexy sister of other traffic generating methods, such as Pinterest. However, I'm telling you now that SEO is totally sexy, and if you're not using keywords to get more traffic to your blog, you're missing out.
So listen up.
At the time of writing this post, SEO accounts for more than 70% of my blog traffic. It wins by a long shot. In fact, one particular blog post I wrote more than a year ago consistently gets between 200-300 new visitors every day. Sometimes I scratch my head and wonder how this can be true. But it is, and I'm not complaining! It's no coincidence however, as this particular post was optimised with keywords.
Even while I was on a year's blogging hiatus and did nothing to promote my website, it continued to get hundreds of daily visitors, mostly through that particular blog post.
So how do you SEO your blog posts? You can either go DIY and pay absolutely nothing by using the Google Keyword Planner tool, or you can pay a professional SEO consultant. I've done a mix of both, but the best results for me (including that 300 visitors per day blog post) have come through a keyword report from Shae Baxter and her Take Over the World Keyword reports. This is not an affiliate link, by the way - but I feel I'd be doing you a disservice by not mentioning the great results I've experienced using Shae's services (twice).
Shae does all the heavy lifting and finds a list of keywords that are targeted to your niche (she even suggests blog post titles for each keyword), and all you need to do is write the blog post and follow her instructions on where to place your keywords. The rest happens like magic, and you can watch your Google Analytics spike every day.
If you're using Wordpress, you'll need to install the Yoast SEO plugin. This allows you to place keywords in the metadata for your blog posts, which is what makes it easier for Google to find you.
If you decide to find keywords using the Google Keyword Planner, pick out the keywords that have a high search volume (I usually look for more than 100) but low competition. If you pick keywords that have high competition, you're making it really hard for Google to find and rank you highly in the search engine rankings, and you probably won't get much traffic from that particular keyword.
4. Guest posting
I know there's only supposed to be three tips in this post, but I couldn't go past this post without mentioning guest posting. While my very first few guest posts as a health blogger quickly took me over the 1000 email subscribers mark, I later had experiences where my results weren't as great, causing me to wonder whether guest posting was a waste of time.
Guest posting can have mixed results when it comes to traffic, though there are tactics you can apply to make the most of your guest posts, and even go one better than website traffic - getting more subscribers.
You can have great results with if you're strategic about it, and I guest posting is a good way to build relationships with other bloggers and cross promote to your audiences.
The solution to maximising your guest posts is to:
- Choose websites where your target market are guaranteed to be. In this sense, niche sites (where the target audience is very close to YOUR audience) are a good idea, because even if they're small, they're likely to be very engaged with what you have to say
- Offer free value in the form of an opt-in. Link to a landing page directly from the guest post, multiple times, so readers are enticed to click through and download your content if they're interested.
Make sure your lead magnet is directly related to the product or service you offer. This will ensure that the new subscribers who join your email gang are actually people who are interested in working or buying from you at some point in the future, as well as people who will enjoy the free value you provide through your mailing list and blog content.
While different audiences will give you different results, linking to landing pages with free, downloadable content when guest-posting is a sure-fire way to maximise your guest posting results and attract more new subscribers when guest-posting. Simply make mention of your lead magnet once or twice throughout the guest post and link to the landing page where it can be downloaded from.
